What is a Personal License Register?
The Personal License Register is a small (32KB)
data file that contains information about the programs
that you've licensed through OSoLiS. Once installed in the correct
location on your computer, any licensed SIVL-compliant program will recognize that
it is licensed and will run fully-enabled. Your Personal License Register
contains information that identifies you as the licensee. You should not allow anyone else
to 'borrow' your Personal License Register. Doing so could be construed as encouraging them to breach copyright, which is a felony / criminal offence.
Where do I find it?
Your Personal License Register is e-mailed to you after you register a program. If you didn't receive it, please check your Spam/Junk folder in case it was misidentified as spam.
You can have it emailed to you again, or you can download it directly from your account if you log in to your account. If you use the download link, please follow the second set of installation instructions below.
How do I install it?
- Open the email message entitled Personal License Register.
- Save the attachment licences.rv1 to the Desktop.
- Exit any programs that use a Personal License Register from OSoLiS.
- Open Computer or My Computer.
- Move the saved file licences.rv1 from the Desktop into the WINDOWS folder inside the C: drive.
- Restart your program and it should recognize that it is registered.
If that does not work:
- Open the email message entitled Personal License Register and click on the download link, or log in to your account and click on the download link there.
- Save the download file osolis.zip to your Desktop.
- Open the downloaded file osolis.zip and extract the file inside, licences.rv1, to your Desktop.
- Exit any programs that use a Personal License Register from OSoLiS.
- Open Computer or My Computer.
- Move the extracted file licences.rv1 from the Desktop into the WINDOWS folder inside the C: drive.
- Restart your program and it should recognize that it is registered.
Note:
- You must exit (File menu > Exit) and not just close the program before restarting it.
- Windows Vista/7 will prompt you with various security messages: you must confirm all of these, and possibly enter an Administrator password.
- Some programs may let you save the Personal License Register to the top level of the drive on which the software is installed.
- If you're not sure where to save your Personal License Register, open your program's About ... window.
- The Windows folder may have a different name, e.g. C:\WINNT, C:\WIN98, or C:\WIN95.
- Do not place the Personal License Register with the program files.
- Security restrictions in Windows Vista/7 mean you cannot save an attachment or download directly to the C:\ or C:\WINDOWS folders, which is why the instructions ask you to save the file to your Desktop first.
- Do not rename the Personal License Register file: it must be licences.rv1 (Note the spelling: L-I-C-E-N-C-E-S-dot-R-V-one.)
How do I save the attachment?
If you use e-mail software look for a button or menu option to save attachments (e.g File menu: Save Attachments).
If you use webmail, right-click on the attachment (licences.rv1) download link and select Save Target As. If you see a Save as type option at the bottom of the Save dialog window, make sure it is set to All files and not Text Document.
If you use AOL you must retrieve the attachment from the Downloads folder (don't choose to open the Personal License Register attachment or you may inadvertently corrupt it):
- Check where your Download folder is by going to the Members menu, then Preferences, then Download.
- In Windows, navigate to the Downloads folder (e.g. open My Computer, then the C: drive, then the AOL x.0 folder, then the Download folder).
- Move or copy the file licences.rv1 from there to your Windows folder (see above).
If the email attachment doesn't work for you, please try the download link in the same email, or download your Personal Licence Register from your account, and follow the second set of instructions above.
I never received it or I've lost it
You can very quickly obtain another copy of your
Personal License Register by logging back into your account from
here.
The program I've registered still says it's not licensed
Have you exited and restarted the program since you
installed your Personal License Register? If so, check what the message
says in the 'About ...' window of the program:
Personal License Register not found
Check the message for where you need to install the licences.rv1 file and follow the instructions above.
Personal License Register found, but
no license for this program
If you recently purchased an upgrade license, you must install the new Personal License Register (see above), replacing the old one.
You may have obtained a license for
a different edition of the program than the one you've installed. Log
in and click on Licenses Held to see what you've licensed.
Click on the Information button to see the program's web
page for details about how to download that edition. If you need
to license a different edition, click on Identify Program and
follow the steps from there.
Personal License Register corrupted
This seems to occur with certain combinations of email and antivirus software under Windows 7. You should follow the second set of instructions above to reinstall your Personal License Register. Be sure to confirm the warning about replacing the existing file.
If you opened your Personal
License Register in, say, a text editor and then saved it. You must
reinstall your Personal License Register. Be sure to confirm the warning about replacing the existing file.
How do I install over an existing Personal License Register?
Exit any programs you've licensed through OSoLiS then
move or copy the new Personal License Register file over the top
of
the existing copy on your computer, confirming the warning message(s). You don't need
to logout or restart your
computer.
What if I have multiple licenses?
If you have purchased multiple licenses,
install a copy of the Personal License Register on each machine that
is running a licensed SIVL-compliant program. Each
program will report how many licenses in total have been granted
to you. It is
your responsibility to ensure that you have purchased the correct number
of licenses (see the terms and conditions of the license). |
